Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga was first started in 1995 by Dr Madan Kataria from India with just 5 people in a Mumbai Park. There are now thousands of free social laughter clubs in over 100 countries over the world. Laughter Yoga is also practised in senior centres, businesses, schools, colleges and universities, organizations for physically and mentally challenged, prisons, police and many other places.

Laughter does not discriminate.

We can all laugh, IF – we allow ourselves to!

What is it?

Put simply: Yoga benefits through laughter practices!

A unique concept. Anyone can laugh for no reason without relying on humour, jokes, or comedy. In these workshops, I initiate laughter as an exercise in the group with eye contact, movement, and childlike playfulness, it’s intentional and therefore cannot be fake! The pandemic has turned our world upside down and laughter has something in common with Covid. It’s contagious!

Why is it called Laughter Yoga?

It combines laughter exercises with deep breathing, bringing more oxygen to the body and the brain, making one feel more energetic and healthier. Scientific studies show that the body has no way of differentiating ‘real’ and voluntary laughter if done with gusto and willingness.

In order to get the most engagement, I feel it would be most effective in groups of a maximum of 15 children, or 25 adults at a time.

What can laughter do for Businesses?

All the benefits of laughter can also benefit business. These include: (but not limited to) Laughter…

  • Produce the happy chemicals – Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins.

  • Relieves stress, to reduce chances overwhelm.

  • Promotes creativity. Smile through the day.

  • Laughter allows people to view the world through a different lens.

  • Builds rapport and morale.

  • Improves health meaning headaches and illness are less likely to be present.

  • Clearer thinking = innovation and greater productivity.

Laughter at Work. The benefits

Laughter not only reduces stress and anxiety; it helps the vital human organs. Our lungs, heart and brain.

If we can laugh as one, it brings teams closer and therefore people are more likely to want to go the extra mile for one another. It is different to the more conventional teambuilding exercises as it is something that can stay with us and be repeated daily, hourly, or weekly.

Laughter ensures we deliver that ‘service with a smile’ 😊

It helps create a culture where people feel positive, safe, and comfortable in themselves and the working environment.

Laughter takes away that Sunday dread “oh no, work tomorrow!” and allows the team to feel empowered to enjoy being there.

“Attended the brilliant Laughter Yoga - Promotion with Ripples Wellbeing this morning. So gracefully led by the laughter maestro himself James Hall. What an uplifting, invigorating, and hilarious way to start my day. I feel energised, raring to go, and have little dopamine tingles surging through my body. Can't recommend this more highly. Set aside your inhibitions, step out of your comfort zone and join James for the next one. It is a right belly laugh!

“I had a great time! You are so warm and welcoming and the best person to host a laughter yoga session. Putting people at ease comes very naturally to you and I would most definitely recommend it to others. I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would and the after effects of the session have been incredibly valuable. I have felt less stressed today and lighter in mood and spirit. I can't believe I have not done this sooner! Laughter truly is the best medicine. Thank you for inviting me.”

"The laughter yoga session this morning with James was great.  I felt nervous and wasn't sure what to expect, but James put me and the group at ease straightway.  Before I knew it I was joining in with the laughter and felt my anxieties and tensions releasing.  The relaxing mediation at the end was lovely too, to relax from all the laughing and to feel calm for a few minutes.  Thank you!"

"Just a personal message to thank you for a very informative, in depth, first class, and mentally exhausting course this week. The Team thoroughly enjoyed it and are more equipped now than ever to support both colleagues, friends, and family. Thank you so much."
